15 club records and 15 championship records broken along with 4 County records during first day of summer club championships
The water in the pool was surely too tropical for fast swimming but still swimmers delivered their best performances. Sophie Culpin, in her last club championships, broke 2 county records. One in 200 butterfly (third fastest time this year achieved in County) and one in 200 free. Abigail Farkas broke a county record in 200 butterfly showing great talent. Her time is sixth fastest time in Britain so surely we hope for the final at Nationals. Freya Colbert broke a county record in 50 free. Freya also breaking a number of club records achieved top times in the British ranking in 200 fly, 100 free, 200 free, 100 IM and second in the ranking in 100 backstroke.
Congratulations also for breaking a new club record goes to Alisha Tyers (in 50 free), Billy Reed (in 200 free, 200 fly and 100 IM). Finally well done to Thomas Lewis who was the first swimmer to break a minute in 100 backstroke setting a strong club record.
Well done also to Iona Colbert for breaking a championship record in 50 backstroke moving into the top 25 in Britain. Connie Philips follows club's strong tradition in delivering top 200 meter butterfliers in the country. Connie broke a championship record with the 4th fastest time in Britain in her age group! Wow! Caleb Mackey broke a champs record in 200 free and James Dobney in 200 butterfly with the fastest time in our county. If James continues to improve in this rate we will see him among the top swimmers in the British ranking next season.
Massive congratulations to the swimmers who qualified for the first time for next year County championships - Caitlin Anders, Isabel Bellamy, Kaelin Smith and Joshua Clarke. Excellent job swimmers!
